22a label boss, flautist, saxophonist, producer and DJ, Ed ‘Tenderlonious’ Cawthorne is an influential figure in London’s burgeoning underground music scene. On his last record, Tenderlonious teamed up with Juabi, an instrumental quartet from Lahore, Pakistan, on Ragas From Lahore: Improvisations with Jaubi, creating an innovative album that combines tabla, flute and ambient electronics. Following on from the collaboration with Jabi, Tenderlonious has dropped a new 4 track EP titled TEK​-​88, inspired by the iconic Roland TR-808. The opening track '808 State' sees galactic synths rise deep from the ether, whilst an 808-style drum beat creates an ominous and dancey feel. As the track progresses, you loose yourself in the drawn out synth sounds that stretch like thick molten treacle. The percussive elements are expanded on, the vintage drum machine becoming more vibrant as time goes on, creating a euphoric sonic journey.
